First holiday

I hope you had wonderful long weekend during the celebration of Lunar New Year. It was the first holiday we had after the opening of atomi. On both days, we were invited to gatherings by people we met through atomi, and met more new people there. I felt so happy that atomi brought us so many great things in our lives. I am really grateful.

On the Valentine's day, we went out to have dinner at Garibaldi (http://www.garibaldi.com.sg/), which is also a wonderful supporter of atomi. At their new restaurant, they are using our aprons, coasters, and napkins. I can't wait to dine using our linens! I will update on this blog once the restaurant opens.

In order for us to give back to our customers, we are organizing more workshops and events at atomi. The first one will be on 3 March, 10am. We are organizing a Ikebana (flower arrangement) workshop! If you are interested, please let me know (mitsuko@atomi-jp.com). We would like to offer different things to our customers, and hope atomi is a place where our customers can come, and relax and enjoy.

旧正月の長い週末、みなさんのんびりできましたか？
私たちにとってはatomiオープン以来、初めてのお休みでした。日々できないことをいろいろと詰め込みすぎ、逆に忙しかったような。。それでも2日ともatomiを通して知合った方のお家にお招きいただいて、そこでまたいろんな方々と知りあえ、とっても楽しい2日間でした。お客様のお家に逆にお招きいただくなんて、atomiのお客様は本当にやさしい方々ばかりなのです！

14日バレンタインの日は、こちらもとても良くしてくださっているGaribaldiレストランに行ってきました（http://www.garibaldi.com.sg/）。近すぎず遠すぎない素晴らしいサービス、高級感の中にもアットホームな雰囲気で、お料理ももちろん美味しく、久しぶりのゆったりとしたディナー、満喫しました。実はGaribaldiグループの新しいレストランで、atomiのエプロン、コースター、ナプキンなどを使ってくださるのです。またオープンしましたらこちらでお知らせしますね。私たちもatomiのリネンを使ったディナーを楽しみにしています。

私たちもお客様に少しでもお返ししたく、ワークショップなどを企画しています。atomiの場所を提供することで、興味のあるお客様にはいろいろな選択肢をご提供できたら、と思っています。第一弾として3月3日、10時～いけばなのワークショップを企画しました。ご興味ある方はmitsuko@atomi-jp.comまでお気軽にご連絡くださいね。

継続！

On last Saturday, a friend of mine I met through yoga invited my husband and me to an annual lunar year-end party at her gorgeous house. We had a great time meeting new people. She practices / teaches yoga, and is a blogger, too. http://ameblo.jp/pranayoga/page-6.html#main After the party, I visited her blog, read some of her past posts, and in one of the posts, she was writing how important it is to keep continuing and some tips how to achieve that. So here I am, re-starting this blog page, where I had left it unupdated almost for a month!

先週の土曜日、ヨガで知合った友人が旧暦忘年会パーティーをするということで、彼女のとっても素敵なお家に行ってきました。お店にいるだけでは知合えなかったかもしれない方たちとのご縁、彼女のお手製の美味しいお料理などなど、とても楽しい時間を過ごしました。

続けることに意義がある！というポストに行き当たりました。
ということで、1ヶ月ほども放置していたこのブログ、更新しています！
彼女を見習って、私ももう少し定期的にブログ更新できるように頑張ります。

シンガポールは旧暦のお正月のお祝いもあることを言い訳に、「ブログ継続」を今年の抱負にして仕切り直しです！

Delicious tea from Japan had arrived!

Today, I am happy to inform you that delicious teas from Japan had finally arrived.

Not only the usual Japanese green tea, but we also have lemon grass tea that is grown in Saga, Japan. The lemon grass tea is really fragrant, and is perfect as a refreshing drink after meals or if iced,it is wonderful to drink on a hot day.

The green tea is fragrant and tasty, too.

Especially, blended teas are the unique ones.

- lemon grass tea x yuzu (yuzu's mild fragrance is refreshing)

- brown tea x Japanese pear (you can taste slight sweetness of the pear)

- green tea x lemon grass tea (lemon grass's refreshing aroma blends with green tea very well)

- green tea x roasted soy bean (nutty flavour of the roasted soy bean goes well with Asian food)

The teas are grown organically, and they are 100% all natural without any flavourings or colourings, so you can truly enjoy the natural flavour of the tea. I sometimes find artificially flavoured teas too strong, so when I tried these teas for the first time, I fell in love with the "all-natural" concept and taste of the whole tea series, and that's how we decided to introduce the tea series at atomi.

As you can see, it comes with nice packaging, so it will make a great gift, too. In fact, the person who designed the packaging of the tea had won awards for good packaging in Japan.

We hope these tea will help you relax at the end of a busy day, or tostart a great day in the morning.

日本から美味しいお茶が入荷いたしました!

全て日本で有機栽培されたお茶です。緑茶だけでなく、なんと佐賀県で生産されたレモングラスティーもあるんです。とても香りが良く、食後のお茶や、暑い日はアイスティーでもとても美味しいです。緑茶も釜炒製法で仕上げられており、香り・風味ともにとても豊かです。

特にブレンドティーが面白く、美味しい組合せでとても気に入っています。

TV filming on 15 Jan

Tomorrow on 15 January, channel 8 is coming to atomi to film a show. During the filming, we will have to close the shop. We are sorry for the inconvenience caused!

明日1月15日、14時～18時ごろにかけてシンガポールの中国語放送局、チャンネル8がatomiにて撮影を行うことになりました。その間お店をクローズしなければならず、ご迷惑をおかけすることになります。
どんな撮影になるのか見当もつかず。。素敵に紹介してもらえるように頑張ります！

New!

We hope everyone had a good start of 2010, and we did, too. We started 2010 with nice bottles of sake with our customers, and once again, thank you for those who dropped by! For those who missed it, we will plan more such things in coming future.

For 2010, we will have exciting new items joining atomi collection. To start, we are currently featuring CDs by Japanese artists, and beautiful photos taken in Japan by April Lee. Thanks to April and Ricks of Kitchen label (www.kitchen-label.com), they created a beautiful corner within atomi. They are both very creative and talented as musician, photographer, web designer.

These CDs are perfect for relaxing evening or lazy weekend afternoons :) I just love the way they set it up, and I keep going back to the corner. It's so calming. We are playing the music in atomi, and if you like it, you can buy the CDs.

The photos taken by April are for sale, too. They are the first and only Singaporean couple who knew my favorite magazine Lingkaran, and I was so amazed!! We obviously share the same likings :)

Next week, we will have more new items, such as beautiful teas from Japan, and I will let you know once that arrives!

We also have new linen items with new spring colour, so feel free to visit atomi, and we are looking forward to welcoming you.

タイミングがかなり遅れてしまいましたが。。あけましておめでとうございます。今年もみなさまにとってたくさんの幸せが訪れる年になりますように。

年も変わり2010年、様々な新しいモノたちがatomiにやってくる予定です。

その第一弾として日本のCDを展示販売中です！こちらはシンガポールのレーベルKitchen Label (www.kitchen-label.com)のAprilとRicksが写真のようなコーナーをatomiにセットアップしてくれ、紹介しています。このコーナー、見ているだけで癒されるので、用も無くコーナーの周りをうろうろしてます。。音楽のほうも、癒される曲ばかりで1日の終わりや、週末の午後にピッタリです。atomiで曲を流しているのでリクエストがあれば遠慮なく声をかけてくださいね。AprilとRicksは私が好きだった日本の雑誌Lingkaranを知っているのです！Aprilが撮る写真が（こちらも店内に展示してます）Lingkaranっぽい雰囲気だと話したところ、Aprilも好きだったことが判明。びっくりです。

来週には日本からのステキなお茶もご紹介できると思います、お楽しみに！

また、春の新色のリネン商品が徐々に届いています。シンガポールは常夏ですが…春の色、やっぱりいいです！

Today is the last day of 2009, and I would like to take this opportunity to thank you all again for the great support. It's has definetely been an eventful and wonderful year for both of us. Next year, we will continue to source exciting items to make atomi more enjoyable and comfortable place for all of you who visit us.

今年はatomiのオープンなどいろんなことがあり、その時々山あり谷ありもありましたが、

ちなみに、私は今年のOrchardのクリスマスの飾りつけ、可愛くて気に入っているのですが

この前訪ねてくれた妹によると「微妙」とのこと。。

逆にこの時期に東京に行ったシンガポールの方からは、東京のクリスマスの飾りつけは

ちょっと物足りなかった、という感想を聞きました。

感覚のちょっとした違い、おもしろいな～と思いましたが、

私の感覚もシンガポール寄りになっているのかもしれません！

New!

I would like to share with you what's new in atomi.
These are our hair ties, and 6pcs of new stripe ones just arrived yesterday, and some are already sold out! Again this time, the balance of colours is stunning, and they really are art pieces. They are all unique pieces, as the designer Yuriko does not repeat the design. What's great about them is that you can change the rubber band, so you can use them for a very long time. Yuriko specializes in making glass accessories, and I love the way she mixes different colours. She also makes trays and cufflinks, which designs are only available at atomi.

atomiに新商品が入りました。
ガラス製のヘアゴムです！初めて見たときは、こんなおしゃれなヘアゴムがあるんだ！と目からうろこでした。

今回の新入荷はストライプタイプで、全て1点モノで、世界に1つしかないものです。すでにいくつか巣立っていきました。（ありがとうございます）いつも色の組合わせ方が絶妙で、見ていて幸せな気分になる色ばかりです。ゴムの部分は取替えが可能なので、長い間使っていただけるのもポイントです。

同じく全て1点モノのガラストレーも…　必見です！

どれも私自身が大好きな作品ばかりなのです。造ってくださっているあかしさんのお人柄が分かるような、やさしい雰囲気（でも甘すぎない）のものばかりです。

後ろに薄っすら写っている四角のヘアゴムも、実は3層の色使いになっていて、横からいろんな色がチラッと見えるのがツボです。

atomi appeared on Channel U yesterday in Money Week 09 财经追击. For those who missed it, there will be an encore tomorrow from 11:30pm. It was a very exciting experience for atomi to witness how they film the episode. Thank you also our friends for the guest appearance :)

about linen

I just realized I have not posted why we carry linen at atomi. In fact, I think almost 50% of our products are linen items.



I thought about the reasons, and there are reasons, but I simply love them!
I love the feeling, the look, everything.



It all started when very good couple friend of ours gave us linen place mats as a wedding gift. Before that, we used to use cotton place mats, but once I started using the linen one, it was just so much better that now I only use linen place mats.



First of all, I love the feeling. It's soft yet it's got natural crisp feeling about it.
It's easy to wash and dry, and durable.


Linen is also very eco-friendly material.



- linen is one of the world's oldest fabrics, and is woven from the fibres of the flax plant and is a completely natural resource
- no part of the flax plant is wasted; the left over linen seeds,oil, straw and fibre are used in everything from lino and soap to cattle feed and paper.
- the production of linen fabric uses 5 to 20 times less water and energy than the production of cotton or other synthetic fabrics.
- linen fabrics are 100% biodegradable and recyclable.



It's amazing how much variety of different linen materials are available. My absolute favorite is a "bath mat"! I hope the image can capture how great it feels.

なぜリネンなのか。

改めて考えてみましたが、リネンが大好きだから、というところに落着いてしまいました。


はじまりは、仲良くしてもらっている大好きなお友達ご夫婦からいただいた、リネンのプレイスマットでした。
それまではあまり深く考えずにコットンのプレイスマットを使っていましたが、一度リネンのものを使ってみると、その使い心地のよさに驚きました。
柔らかいのにシャリッとした感触、自然の素材が持つやさしい感触などなど。

こう表現すると、ものすごく主観的になってしまうのですが、実際簡単にお洗濯できて乾きが早かったり、汚れが落ちやすかったり、客観的に見てもとても使いやすい素材です。

更に、環境にもやさしいので一石二鳥です。


- フラックスは何百年も栽培されてきた、再生可能な資源
- フラックスの植物には捨てるところがほとんど無く、どの部分も価値がある（亜麻油、亜麻仁など）
- リネンの生産に必要とされる水やエネルギーの量はコットンのそれと比べて5～20倍少なくすむ
- リネンは完全な生分解性があり、環境の中で循環している

リネンと一言で言っても、様々な素材がそろっています。

私の一押しはバスマットです！（画像で肌触りのよさが伝わるでしょうか。。）
